Bio

John Stephen Kuhns got his first guitar as a Christmas present when he was seven years old, and joined his first rock band, Magma, at the age of 14. Magma won their high school Battle of the Bands which, and much to his parent's chagrin, only encouraged John to continue writing, playing and recording his music quite loudly in his bedroom.

After graduating high school, John moved to Austin, Texas where his three-octave vocal range landed him in several local and touring metal bands. He also played lead guitar with the industrial electronic group, Listen.

He played guitar with the California band, the Totems, before returning to Austin where he played guitar in two country bands, Fingerpistol and the Brent Allen band.

He has had several of his orchestral pieces recorded by the Cape Town Orchestra of South Africa, and he is working towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition for Film, TV and Games at Berklee College of Music.

While studying at Berklee, he is also building a portfolio of compositions for short films by entering several scoring competitions. His most recent composition is for the Lost Piano scoring competition, sponsored by Westwood Instruments.
