John Stephen Kuhns
What inspires me to create music is the possibility of inspiring another person with the music that I have created. The air around us is the medium of music, and I believe that a silent room holds infinite potential because anything can happen in that space. As soon as something causes the air to move and vibrate, a sound is born. Something has come from nothing. I am fascinated by the idea that, if we are fortunate enough to be blessed with the ability to hear, we can hear vibrations in the air as they pass by our ears. When they are skillfully manipulated, these vibrations can stir feeling and emotions within us. It is indescribably rewarding to me when a piece of music that I have created evokes an emotional response in another person.
John Stephen Kuhns is a student at Berklee College of Music majoring in Music Composition for Film, TV and Games. He is a composer, songwriter, vocalist, luthier, and multi-instrumentalist, and was a performing musician for over thirty years. Several of his compositions have recently been recorded by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
"John has a unique musical voice wherein the apparent simplicity belies a sophistication of form and harmony and sets him apart from the multitude of composers all trying to sound like their film composer 'heroes'."
